Thanksgiving Fruit Platter
This was a huge hit for my son’s school party last year!
You can use almost any fruit you want, I’ve also seen this done with vegetables, but this is how I made mine, simply because these were the ingredients I had in my kitchen at the time.
- 1 pear
- 1 basket or strawberries
- 1 basket of rasberries
- 2 bananas
- very small pieces of carrot
- large round or oval platter
Cut the pear in half. One half will be the turkey’s body, slice the other half. These will be feathers.
Place the uncut half of pear down in the bottom center of your platter.
I used a pear that had the stem sticking off to one side and I cut a bit off center so when I laid the half with the stem still attached down, it looked like a beak sticking out. (See photo) If you can’t find a pear like that, you can cut a small slit and stick in a tiny triangular cut of carrot for a beak, or leave the pear as is. Either way it will still look great.
Add two small slivers of carrot for the waddle and feet.
Then layer in an arc around the half pear, raspberries, sliced bananas, strawberries, and the other half of pear, sliced. The pear slices curve, so I turned them to face out on either side of the “turkey body”.
Everyone loved it! It ended up being the centerpiece of the table and the hit of the party!
