Each week we have a different theme at the What to Read hop and I’ll be suggesting my favorite children’s books for learning with your kids about that with fun picture books, activity books, and great supplements to your homeschooling curriculum.
I’ve always wanted to travel the world, and though I haven’t yet been able to, we can travel through our homeschool learning. Preschool and Kindergarten homeschooling is the perfect age for unit studies. Of course they are a fun way to learn at any age. I let the kids loose in the library and we find story books, fables, cook books, map books, history, and more about places across the globe. Our favorites are those that tell of kids in other countries. For our studies we might pick a country and learn what we can about the people there, the habitat, animals, culture, art, food and traditions. Anytime we can incorporate food into our learning, the better! Cooking with kids bring in math and science skills as well! Plus it’s so fun to try new foods.
Some related activities featured in these posts:
- Local Field Trips
- Best Family Beaches in Santa Cruz, CA
- Innovative Learning through Fort Building
- Cooking as a Family
We can all get so busy each day. There is never enough time, but I encourage you to make time to read to your kids. I have put some extra effort into it lately, reading while my kids eat lunch, beginning bed time earlier so we have extra time to read in the evening, it’s one of my favorite activities to do with my kids. Read a book or two about Travel or any subject that is interesting to your children. If you have any posts with some family favorite books of your own, please share them at the end of the post. We love to find new books!

Such a fun list of books! We love Around the World in 80 days; we mapped Fogg’s route, watched the movie and enjoyed his adventures tremendously.
I love looking through travel books, even when I can’t travel – they’re great for inspiration.
