I am a Seeker {Blog a Day in May Challenge- Day 6}

May 6, 2013 by L. E. Mastilock 10 Comments

Day 6 of the Blog Every Day in May challenge.

Today’s question is:

If you couldn’t answer with your job, how would you answer the question, ‘what do you do’?

When people ask what I do, referring to an occupation, I answer that I’m an artist and a writer.
I am also a mom, and a homeschooling mom, at that. So, besides the usual wife/mom/teacher duties; such as maid, chef, nurse, secretary, personal organizer,… the list goes on, what do I do?

I really had to think hard on this one, but finally came to this conclusion:

I am a seeker

A seeker of happiness, peace, sunshine, compassion, love, and beauty. If you read my last couple of posts, you may think I’m stuck on that topic (happiness)! Maybe I am, but it’s something I consciously work hard on every day, so that I don’t fall into depression again. Perhaps that’s why it keeps coming to the front of my mind when I’m writing about myself.

Sandy Toes Creations: I am a SeekerI try to bring these things into the world and into the lives of those around me. I’m not saying I do a great job of it, at least not all the time, but, I also seek them out. I work at noticing the beauty, the positive, and the hope, on a daily basis and in any situation. I have felt what it is to despair and I don’t ever want to be in that place again. I don’t want that for my kids. Or for my husband. So I do whatever I can to make sure my family is happy, as well as myself, and that my children are learning that these are the important things.

On a side note- I certainly don’t try to force anyone to be happy all day long! I can’t stand overly-happy people or fake happiness! Anger, sadness, frustration, they’re all natural and necessary. I let my kids express themselves and work through it. I just mean that I try to keep us focused on the positive in general and along with all the mundane tasks of this life, we are out there noticing the beauty, enjoying, and really living life. I hope you are, too!

I’d love to know one thing that really makes you happy? Never know when I’ll need some extra inspiration!

I"m a lifelong learner. I crave knowledge and information. My husband teases me that if I had the chance, I'd collect college degrees like most people collect coffee mugs! I just love learning.

Wonderful! I love learning, too, but only on my terms. I don't like the pressure of school, so would be hard pressed to get multiple degrees!

Well, first off – Harry Potter makes me happy, so seriously I am obsessed, I've read all the books countless times – so I loved that you used quidditch to convey how you were feeling! The other thing that makes me happy is my family, and doing nice things for other people!

I love your attitude. Attitude alone can make or break your entire day. Blogging isn't an easy job, especially, when you have a family that demands your time and attention as well.

Love the reference to Harry Potter!

One thing that makes me really happy? My son's academic achievements. 🙂

I always want to brag it to the world when my kids reach some goal or accomplish an achievement that is important to them! I love seeing how proud they are of themselves. 😉

I love what you do! What makes me happy is coming home to my son & husband after being at work all day. This is especially the case when I've had a crappy day at the office. Their hugs & kisses make it all go away!
