Why I Threw Away My Shampoo and Conditioner

June 13, 2017 by L. E. Mastilock 2 Comments

I have been searching for a natural shampoo that worked well for quite some time. I’ve even tried not using shampoo, but making my own natural shampoo, which is not technically shampoo at all. The problem with making my own was that my hair would get oily right away and never looked clean. And my hair would feel dry and be very difficult to brush without using a ton of conditioner.

I gave up that attempt and have only used natural shampoo and conditioner, however I have had a dry scalp (ugh, who wants flakes?!) that I can’t seem to get rid of, no matter what brand I try, and my hair is dry and very tangled. I have to use my daughter’s detangler to get a brush through it. My hair doesn’t grow any longer, it always breaks off just past my shoulders. I’m fed up with my hair.

Why I Threw Out My Shampoo & Conditioner

I was invited to ditch my shampoo and conditioner and try the all natural New Wash by Hairstory. I have been using it for 30 days and right away I was impressed! After the very first wash, I didn’t need conditioner or any other products to detangle. I had no tangles!

New Hair Organic Hair Wash

Let me back up a minute. So, New Hair is an all natural hair wash. It is not shampoo as the defining characteristic of shampoo is lather. This will not lather, which takes a little getting used to, but it’s the ingredients that lather that can cause the most damage to your scalp and hair.

New Hair contains a blend of essential oils and natural cleansers that respect the body’s natural moisture barrier, which detergent destroys. It doesn’t strip your hair of it’s natural moisture, which causes your scalp to produce more oil to compensate. It goes on like conditioner in the shower. It’s like a creamy lotion, that smells lovely, you run it through your scalp and hair, then massage your scalp “vigorously”! So says the instructions on the bottle. Then you rinse.

As I said, right away I no longer needed anything but a brush to brush my hair. It was smooth and tangle free! This photo was after only one use! Check out my natural waves! I forgot they could look nice! I don’t blow dry my hair, and I also found that it dries faster. There is no product at all in my hair.

Naturally wavy hair

Buh-bye Shampoo. I Love my New Hair!

Within a few days I noticed more shine and less frizz. I no longer have split ends and my hair feels light, has more volume, and is oh so soft! My family has developed a habit of touching it often, which cracks me up. My kids want to snuggle and rub their cheeks in my hair! I’ll take all the cuddles I can get, they’re growing way to fast. I can’t stop touching my own hair, either!

I absolutely love this natural hair wash.

My hair is naturally wavy, but previously it was flat. There was never enough wave to look anything but messy. Now my waves are more prominent and because they are soft, silky, and shiny, they look beautiful! The shine brings out my natural highlights. I still have not had any tangles what-so-ever. New Hair is a bit more expensive than I normally like to spend on any one hair product, but as it replaces three things, shampoo, conditioner, and detangler (possibly more if you’re used to using other products to tame frizz, boost volume, waves or curls…) AND it works wonders. It’s very worth it and I’m actually be spending less money after all.

Awesome Facts about New Wash:

I’m hooked. I want to get more and have my kids use it. Especially my daughter, so we can both live without mass of tangles every morning. I can’t wait for her to fall in love with her own soft silky hair as she has mine without any hash chemicals or a bunch of products.

Would you try it? Have you ever used a non-lathering hair wash? What is your top concern with commercial hair shampoos?

I’m intrigued. Are you still using it or did you move on? And how long did a bottle last (hard to say, I’m sure…)?

Yes, I still use it. Especially love it for my daughter’s hair. It’s fine hair and she used to wake up with a mass of tangles that took forever to brush out. No more tangles with this stuff! It lasted quite a while with both of us using it, maybe even 5 months or so? Hard to say exactly, as I didn’t really pay attention.
