Awesome Olympics Themed Party Ideas Go for the Gold!

I was invited to attend the Hefty® Ultra Strong™ Live Party last week with my daughter. It was an Olympics themed party for kids. The home was adorably decorated and decked out in all things Olympics. I gleaned some great kids birthday party ideas or ideas for my own Olympic party, should I have one. This would definitely make for fun birthday party themes.

How to throw an Olympic themed party

Decorations:

Olympics Rings Photo Op: This is such a simple to make backdrop with hula hoops hung on the wall and printable Olympic props such as sports head bands, gold medals, signs, and foam fingers the kids can hold.

This blow up barbell was a big hit with the kids!

Party decorations:

  • American flags
  • mini foam fingers
  • mini gold cup trophies
  • wheat grass
  • football field plastic runner and backdrop
  • balloons

I’m here in the U.S. so would of course be sporting Red, White, and Blue colors!

Snacks:

  • Individual sandwich buns in Hefty® bags with a create your own sandwich and condiment buffet.
  • Individual recycled Hefty® Cups with popcorn, pretzels, and fruit
  • Mini trophy and foam finger accents made this party spread extra fun!

My girls was thrilled with her new gold trophy cup! It was a highlight of the party for her!

Kids Party games:

Name that Scent

We each guessed the scent of some of the new Hefty® Ultra Strong™ Trash bags.

They come in fresh new scents, including

  • Clean Burst™
  • Tropical Paradise™
  • Lavender & Sweet Vanilla™  (my favorite!)
  • White Pine Breeze™
  • Crisp Orchard Apple™
  • Citrus Twist™
  • Pomegranate Mist™
  • and Scent Free

Then we guessed what some stinky items were wrapped up in pieces cut from Hefty® Ultra Strong™ Trash bags, such as garlic, onion, and other strong smelling items to see if we could tell what it was. The bags did a good job of masking the stinky smell with the ARM & HAMMER™ patented odor neutralizer, making it hard to guess!

Making Slime

The best activity, that I would never have thought would be a success at a kids party, was making slime!

We braved the DIY slime making station, good thing Hefty® Ultra trash bags were at the ready for this gooey craft. The hostess mixed up the ingredients and the kids just had to stir, pour, then stir again, choosing what glitter they wanted to add. It worked out perfectly and the kids were thrilled! They took their creations home in Hefty® gallon storage bags. Yes, I’ll share the slime recipe below!

Check out the fun of slime making in action in my short video, live at the Hefty® Ultra Strong™ Party:

Trash Relay Game:

My favorite game by far, that I will be implementing at the end of every child’s birthday party or any kids party, was the Trash Relay!

We planned on having a scavenger hunt as well, but it was hot. Scavenger hunts are always great fun, too! For this relay game, the kids stood on a football runner line with their excercise head bands, which really added to the Olympic feel and excitement! Trash was scattered around the lawn and the kids had to run and pick up as much as they can and bring it back to fill the trash cans and recycle bins.

In the future I want to have the kids race to pick up the trash left out throughout the location of the party!

After the game, the kids emptied the garbage bins into into Hefty® Ultra Strong™ Trash bags. With kids dragging them back to the trash bin, I’m glad to have trash bags that are so resistant to rips, have break resistant drawstring handles, and that stretch! At home my kids are rough on trash bags, forcing more into them when they are already full, and dragging them across asphalt to our garbage bin outside.

Have you seen this funny video with John Cena bringing back the classic “Hefty,Hefty,Hefty”?

The Hefty® Ultra Strong™ Party was super fun and gave me so many great ideas to host the perfect Olympic themed party or kids birthday party! I am all set for what snacks to provide, easy party decorations that look great, and some simple games and kids activities that bring a party to life and fill it with laughter, which is what a party is all about, right? Celebrating!

If you’re planning a party, I hope some of these ideas help you throw an epic kids’ party as well.

I love the blow up barbell and the DIY slime is perfect for any kid party! What a fun party theme. I’m going to keep the trash relay game in mind for post-party clean up at our next event. Great idea!
