Non-profit on a Mission to Get Kids Playing! Plus a Million Dollar Innovator Challenge #MondayMatters

by L. E. Mastilock Leave a Comment

Welcome to Monday Matters– Spread awareness to help important causes and start your week off right by making a difference each Monday, even if that is just to pin, tweet, or share to pass this information on. Join the Monday Matters blog hop after this post.

Children in the U.S. actively play less than any generation before. Between sitting in front of screens and limited recess at schools, behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, teen suicides, and obesity are all on the rise. There is a solution! Gets kids outside to play!

Play Matters

Kids need to get creative, build with their hands, run and swing. KaBooM! is a non-profit helping to bring accessible playgrounds to impoverished communities and to kids who need updated playgrounds in their area. Find out how you can get involved or donate. You can even become a fundraiser yourself. Are your kids looking for a cause to be part of? Fund raise for your birthday!

KaBooM! Mission

“KaBOOM! works to bring balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children, particularly those growing up in poverty in America. We do this by creating great places to play, inspiring communities to promote and support play and driving the national discussion about the importance of play in fostering healthy and productive lives.”

Play Everywhere Challenge

Are you an innovator? Up for a challenge?

“The Play Everywhere Challenge is a national competition that will award $1 million in prizes for the best replicable, scalable innovations in city redevelopment and design that help make play easy, available and fun for kids and families.” For more detail and to enter click here.

I miss the days when the kids would freely play ou I miss the days when the kids would freely play outdoors. Rocks & streams, sticks & flowers, their toys of choice. They're older now and drawn and to technology. They still have a love of nature, but it takes a push to get them to go outside and their play is different now. How do you get your big kids or #teens outdoors?
