Reading Eggs Review: Learn to Read Online

My kids are both loving Reading Eggs!

As I mentioned before, in my post about the Reading Eggs Online Reading Game, Monkey took a break over the summer from most video game playing and it took a while to get him to want to play. He had forgotten how much he loved it!

I knew he did, though, and when he played it regularly his reading was improving rapidly! So, I’ve been asking him to play a few times a week for at least 30 minutes or to complete one level before he’s free to play other games. After that he can play around in the extra features and do whatever he’d like.

Create your Avatar

In the reading game, he earns golden eggs for completing each section in a level. He loves cashing them in to buy features for his avatar, furniture and accessories for his avatar’s house, and playing arcade games in the Reading Eggs arcade.

Decorate your house

One of his favorite parts is browsing through all the critters he has earned for every section he has passed. As you progress through a section, an egg at the bottom of the screen begins to crack and when you finish the last game in the section, it opens a hilarious creature pops out!

You also get ribbons and awards for finishing the quiz at the end of each map.

It didn’t take him long to realize (again) that this is such a fun game. He rarely realizes he is working, but when we read early reader books together, he is improving quickly!

Even Boo, who hears him laughing and the fun songs playing, comes and
sits with him to laugh and enjoy watching him play. She’s picking up
letter sounds as well!

Reading Eggs is geared for ages 3-7. There is also Reading Eggspress for ages 7-13 and the new Math seeds. It’s much like Reading Eggs, but learning numbers and math concepts.

There are worksheets you can print out that correspond with each level. Monkey actually likes doing them every once in a while as he recognizes the great characters on them from the game! There are books you can buy also, but we haven’t looked into those.
