If you’ve ever traveled with kids, you know you need something to entertain them such as the best road trip books you can find. I like to torture my kids with good old fashioned road trips like I had when I was little, as in, no screen time. Sure, my siblings and I fought, wined, and asked, “are we there yet?” till my parents were ready to throw us from the car, but after a while, we always came up with ways to entertain ourselves. Remember the Alphabet Game? The License Plate Game? Singing obnoxious songs like ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ over and over? Road trips are family time, even when it’s so much easier for us parents to plug kids into iPads or some other device. Give your kids the chance to find their own entertainment. You might be surprised at the conversations that come up, the laughter and fun to be had when you’re all forced to be close together for a long time in the car.
Here is a great list of the best road trip books for kids. And when you really do need some quiet time, pop in an audio book. I encourage you to give your kids the time to learn the skill of entertaining their own selves while traveling this summer.

I love Mad Libs!! My boys were skeptical at first, but once they heard the result, they loved them too. I never thought of doing them on a road trip. Great idea!
