I do not always understand everything in the text or plays I see and hear, but I have a great love of Shakespeare. I couldn’t wait to share that love with my kids. Did you know there are story books to introduce Shakespeare for kids? Brilliant! Of the list below, my favorite are the last two of these great Shakespeare stories for kids; the one by Lamb & one by Nesbit.
For our Shakespeare studies, we read the story together as a family and then look up the play on YouTube to watch some Shakespeare plays that are on the more appropriate side for kids. I find they really enjoy the plays (we’d go see them in person if we could!) and the play versions stick to the story more strictly than movies. Also, they are less intense (adult) than movies. Even not understanding all the words, we pick up the meaning better through watching the play than just reading. However, reading the storybook versions (vs the play scripts) have really helped in understanding as well.
