It’s hard to come up with meals every night of the week, so we always have Taco Tuesday and Pizza night on Fridays. Two other nights are leftover nights, so that leaves just three dinners I need to plan for each week and I make enough for those leftover nights, I just mentioned. Another great trick is to make double and freeze a meal for the following week. I love time savers!
I used to keep taco seasoning packets stocked in my pantry for taco night, but that became more difficult when we began eating only gluten-free tacos. I did find gluten free taco seasoning packets, but since being on this gluten-free diet, I am now much more aware of ingredients and I try to steer clear of additives and artificial colors. Clean eating taco seasoning is much harder to come by. Then I realized just how easy it is to make my own!
I now keep a small jar of home made taco seasoning in my cupboard and can feel good about knowing exactly what is in my food. You can use organic spices only if you’re looking for organic taco seasoning mix. My son is pretty picky about his tacos and this seasoning recipe is picky eater approved!

Home Made Taco Seasoning Mix
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp salt
Directions
- Mix all ingredients together.
- Use 1 Tbsp per 1 lb of ground beef or other meat.
- Store in an air tight container in a cool, dry place. I used a small glass jar that originally contained artichoke hearts, a baby food jar would work well, too.
Use this delicious gluten-free taco seasoning mix to season not only ground beef, but chicken, pork, or steak. Use in Mexican inspired casseroles, burritos, fajitas, tamale pie, any Mexican or Tex-Mex dishes you love. Most Mexican seasoning recipes I have come across use twice as much salt, so you could add more to your liking. I prefer a low salt diet and the recipes I tried were too salty for my taste.
