Dresses for Underprivileged Girls #MondayMatters

February 5, 2018 by L. E. Mastilock 1 Comment

Welcome to Monday Matters! Spread awareness to help important causes and start your week off right by making a difference each Monday, even if that is just to pin, tweet, or share to pass this information on.
Each season, there is much emphasis on shopping, with little consideration for the reality that many girls from low-income families cannot afford to partake in extravagant shopping for school dances and events. Now, however, many underprivileged girls can feel good about themselves and get to wear a beautiful designer dress at an upcoming school dance because of this wonderful foundation.

The Believe in Yourself Project

Brand new ‘in style’ valentine day themed dresses will be provided to underprivileged girls around the country by the Believe in Yourself Project for Valentine Day’s Dances!

Believe in Yourself (www.believeinyourself.org) foundation launched in January 2017.  The Believe in Yourself Project goes into community centers, after-school programs, and low-income housing centers and provides brand-new, never-worn designer dresses to low-income girls around the country, while at the same time works to promote positive body image, to reduce cyber bullying, and to inspire girls to believe in themselves and their dreams.

Dress donations are tied to the girls’ progress in achieving goals. Each girl who wants to receive a dress is entered into a system where they are then tracked to see their progress, whether towards improving their academics or pursuing an extracurricular interest such as music, dance, sports, etc. and Believe in Yourself provides the girls dresses for any upcoming events they have during the school year.

Believe in Yourself is part of a broader initiative. The charity brings in Mentors and speakers to motivate the girls to believe in themselves. These mentors also provide tips if the girls are experiencing a negative body image or bullying of any kind, and they counsel the girls to help them achieve their dreams and goals.
