I used to think of zoos as sad places, but they, at least the one’s I know of, have come a long way. The animals are given more room to move around and the best care is given for them to have a good, healthy life. The animals there were born in captivity and could never return to the wild and they give us the opportunity we would not otherwise have to get up close to animals that naturally live in far away places.
I love to see the wonder and joy on my kids’ faces when we go to the zoo. We do not have one close by, so we haven’t been in a long time. But we still learn all we can about the awesome animals that live in zoos through our library. It’s important to learn a love for animals and the environment so they can be protected in future generations.
Here are some great books for experiencing the zoo and learning about zoo animals in your homeschool curriculum or just for fun!

wow, so many great books about zoos. We have always enjoyed going to the zoo. I will admit that some are better than others. We have on that is south of us and it breaks my heart. The zoo in Miami was fantastic and we went on a weekly basis (we lived close) I love all of these books and I know if my daughter was younger, we would have read them all!
I have mixed feelings about zoos too, but I have visited many with my kids, so I guess there’s no getting around them. They are great subjects for books too. cheers, kidcandoodle
